Can someone please explain to me the rule for handball?

~ ahem, sarcasm, cough cough... Apparently I missed FIFA's meeting about the rule change banning officials from calling handballs in Champions League matches... (I'm talking about Liverpool vs. Inter in case you aren't watching the match)

What's the deal with the ref?|||what a crap linesman clear hand ball the linesman should of told the ref straight away|||the ball was shot at the players face and the rules indicate that when that happens the player can put the hands up to their face to protect themselves

also the lines man was on the completly opposite side of the player

Why do footballers cheat so much? Did anyone just see Thierry Henry handball for that goal?

Oops, I mean "yes including the ones from my team".|||Absoutely terrible, I do feel sorry for this Irish side, I really do but this is France, what do ya expect from sides like them?|||Clearly deliberate handball. He moved his hand and even guided the ball. Sad. Will forever taint his legacy just like Maradona's infamous "hand of God". Googled "Thierry Henry cheat" just out of curiosity and was amazed at the number of hits. Maybe not a one off either by the looks of it. Really sad.

As for the question I think footballers cheat since they are let off. The worst that could happen is a yellow card or a a red. On the other hand, if they are not caught they may have won the game for their team and after a few days, when things have settled, all that is "remembered" in the media and by the majority of the public is the winner. I think football should treat cheating like they do in golf. If you are caught cheating in golf your career is pretty much over (know of at least one pro it happened to). Not much cheating in golf, is there?

Time for post game video reviews and severe penalties for cheating (2 year ban first time, then life). Applying this to Henry's handball tonight, he himself would have to tell the ref there and then that he handballed in order to avoid any post game penalty.|||Not being a Biased Irishman, but in my opinion the French always fight dirty. Not just soccer, but rugby too. Maybe they are just sore losers.

There should be Video Playbacks for touch judges like they have in Rugby. This blatant handball by Terry Henry is a prime example as to why Video Refereeing should be introduced. Anelka also when trying to force a Penalty by throwing his left foot into Given before falling over.

There were so many opportunities where Ireland could have scored during normal time but failed. But there were also other times when Ireland had the ball and had great chances were fouled by those cheating French!

So much for the luck of the Irish. Too many times in Irish Soccer and Rugby, we have so much misfortune from bad refereeing!

And as for the likes of Sarkozy in the crowd and his beloved Lisbon Treaty? Shame on you for flying over to Ireland and demanding Ireland retake the vote. I very much doubt you will be flying over here to apologize for your countrymans poor sporting performance tonight. We won't get a second chance to try get to South Africa. We should be allowed the chance to replay the last 40 minutes with the score all square!

Perhaps some of the French should look at careers in Gaelic Football. That way they can handle the ball as much as they liked! And us Irish could have a go at knocking them about!|||Thats not entirely true actually...he didnt deliberately handball it, it was one of those touch and go type of things you could tell he cringed at it but yet didnt make an attempt to body it rather than handball it but it wasnt deliberate, I was for Ireland all the way too so Im not just defending him, he isnt particularly one of my favourite players but I have to tell it like it is, also he did tell the referee and reporters after the game that there was a handball so he did show remorse, but when you're on your way to the world cup and you scored(handballed) the winning goal...i mean really how much remorse can you show?|||Because Anyone would do ANYTHING to go to the WORLD CUP, It just happens, its like when the REF awards a PK when the ball accidently hits your hand. the other team gets a lucky goal. Henry did what he had too. any one else in his possition would have done the same, and who ever says they wouldnt if a F'IN LAIR. Its not his Fault, the REF is the one who didnt CALL it, nor did his LINESMAN. HE just simple did what he could at the time, and if the REF didnt call it its the refs fault. thats what makes soccer so interesting, the mistakes the REFS MAKE. if not it would be like FOOTBALL, or BASKETBALL, borring with all the stopping of plays.|||It was a blatant attempt and unfortunately a successful attempt at cheating. The fact that he hand-balled it twice in the same move is appalling. The fact that it was allowed shows the obvious need of tele-match officials.

Ireland lost through Henrys cheating. Shame on him, shame in France. I live in Ireland, we are all gutted.

Regards

Gavin McDonald|||The hand was not only to keep the ball in play but he practically used his hand to put the ball in his foot to then make a pass to Galas. I am a soccer player and I find this outrageous. This simple gesture has so many consequences. for him, his team, his country, other countries and all the money. People get real, from this gesture, we can clearly state that Thierry Henry is a cheat!!! I have nothing against french people: I lived there 6 years and I fluently speak french and most of my friends are french but this action simply kills the beauty and fairness of soccer!|||John from Ireland........

Dear Mr Henry'

You are the biggest cheat on the planet. You are a disgrace, you are the bottom of the **** barrel. You have ruined your name ....... I can't believe that a player of your ability has to cheat. France should not be in South Africa ........ You are there in shame ...... and disgrace. Your a stain on the soul of Football. Your a cheat !!!

Regards an honest Irish fan ... you are a cheating french thief.|||Being Irish I was gutted because we played them off the park in terms of chances %26amp; we should've been 2-0 from normal time anyway.

Henry's actions were nothing short of disgusting and it just highlights the need for video cameras in the game. I was always a big fan of Henry but now I have no respect for him at all.|||Answering this question by saying all french people are cheats is very stupid, and quite discriminatory too.

No one should be surprised by what happened, because that's what happens at high levels of competition. Just like players fake being tackled, just like so many goals are scored with the hand, because what matters is to win...And they will do anything to win.

Side story: This is reminescent of the 2006 world cup semifinals where France won on a penalty for a foul commited on...Henry. With a nice diving skill on his part.

And don't worry, France isn't going to go far in teh tournament. They are very lucky to have qualified, and probably won't make it to the knockout phase.

And yes, I am french.|||Its really not Henry fault, its referee fault. When you're playing on the pitch, all the decision and judgment is all depends on the referee. So in this case, i know Henry shouldn't have cheat and handball it but the referee did give away the score to France....so its really depend on FIFA how to judge this|||That was blatant cheating - Henry clearly handballed and knew he did it too. He should be ashamed of himself. An honest man would have owned up.

The French side were so arrogant they thought they'd beat us no problem and when they realised they weren't going to win honestly they started to play dirty. Typical. It's so unjust - for once Ireland really deserved to get in to the world cup and we were robbed. And poor Shay - the ref just would not listen. I hope the French choke on their "victory".|||the referee has been very good. He did not give the penalty to France - most referees would have given that one. Given was very lucky there.

Also as some people pointed out, it was not a deliberate handball. Or he didn't get a good look at what happened. I couldn't tell from watching it live, only on replay.|||The Irish were absolutely 100% robbed tonight. Thierry Henry is a filthy cheat!

Anyone here or in life that excuses him has no right to be involved in sport and is as bad as him

He should be vilified for what he has done. A dirty Rotten Cheat!|||Sadly, it's the done thing in football. Every player sees the other players doing it and think 'I may as well do it too!'. It will take a few of the most prominent players to set an example by repeatedly being honest and doing the right thing. Do you really think this will happen??|||Why are people saying Henry didn't mean to do it? Are you f**king blind? He handles the ball twice, then goes on and passes it.

You see him smiling and timewasting after......

Henry has always been a prick. Hopefully the IRA bombs is house.|||It was a blatent handball and Gallas was in an offside position. It is a bad stroke of football for Ireland. Hopefully Ireland can get a goal in the last 10 minutes.|||they cheat because there is no punishment! henry brought france to the world cup with a voluntary handball and what? he should be banded from the world cup for ever! instead nowadays if they can trick the referee they are heroes.|||henry is such a scumbag.he is a cheat.i used to like him but now i hate him .it was the hand of the devil.he lost us our one chance to qualify for the world cup.|||Despicable, Pathetic and outrageous.

No wonder no one likes the French.

Hopefully Keane punches in the equaliser in the last 15 mins|||Just a hater a goal a goal. Its' football didn't you see Messi do it too..........Watch video|||SPEAKING OF CHEATING. RE WATCH THE SLOVENIA V RUSSIA GAME. You will be blloody blown out of your mind to see how much the Slovenian footballers cheated and got away with it. The ref was CLEARLy Paid.|||Thierry Henry is a ******* asshole ! The Irish were robbed of their victory over the French ! I just hope that Germany kicks the **** out of them in 2010 !|||king henry.this is why he is one of the worlds greatest players.you must win by any means necessary.who cares?as long as you win|||OK IL TELL YOU WHAT

THE FRENCH ARE CHEATS!

HE HANDBALLED IT TWICE AND GALLAS WAS OFFSIDE FROM THE START OF THE FREEKICK

I HATE THE FRENCH!! CHEATING GAYS|||not only did he handball it ..... he handballed it twice ! hit his arm once and then he guided it with his hand ! Obviously meant to do it !! their was a great shot of it on the tv|||cos they have no morals! they are all overpaid, spoilt, border-line rapists anyway!|||Ball played arm|||even tho most irish dont like us english i still want ireland through and now they could be cheated out of it...if i was henry i would hang my head in shame...still hope though, 11mins left|||Leave Henry ALONE!

What are the injuries of handball and court ball games and their treatments?

the most common injuries would be soft tissue including sprains, and muscle tears, you may also need to deal with contusions and abrasions. these are all generally managed with the application of ice at the site of the injury before referral for further treatment if needed.

In a game of handball, you hit the ball essentially at ground level and send it toward the wall with a sp?

You need to finish asking your question. It got truncated.

Is a little rip in a bag really worth a hundred days ban from a old school handball?

I'm just asking this because when i was around 12 my stupid friend tried to steal a paper and i accidently ripped a bit of his bag and so he banned me from playing handball with him since he was in charge for a hundred days, would a little rip be worth all that?|||what?|||No, it is totally not worth that. How do you clean the resin off a handball?

The only way I know to clean the handball is rub the ball with a towel wet with a little portion of alcohol.

After this, rub hardly it whith a dry towel, and the handball will be more easily cleaned.

Moreover, exists a specific disolvent for handball, done by the same brand of resin... you can find it looking for TRIMONA or POMONA, the main sellers of Resin.

How Do You Play Support/Weak Side in Handball?

How Do You Play Support/Weak Side in Handball?

%26amp;

How Do You Play Power Side in Handball?|||This is if both players are both right handed or left handed. The power side player should take majority of the court, if the ball is going to the weak side players opposite the power side player is always entitled to take the shot if they choose. The power side player will usually try and kill the ball more than the weak side player, they will also try to and back up the weak side player if they get lobbed.

The role of the weak side player is less glamourous and is not as well recognised except by top players. The weak side player should always get in front of the other player on their side this is with some discretion (Ex not when it wont cause a block). When returning a serve the weak side player should get in front of the person on the side by running around the outside part of the court. If they were to run through the middle both weak side and power side player would be in the middle and no one on the outside part of the court this almost always results in losing a point. The weak side player should hit shots that will force their opponents to hit setup's (ex lobs and passing shots) and shoot only when they have a sure setup. This is so they can stay consistent while the power player does the higher risk plays. This one is a little more advanced but when your partner is stuck behind the person on their side and the ball is low in front of them the weak side player can run to the power side to pick up the shot because the weak side player can usually see it better than the power side player.

When playing doubles you must have good communication with your partner and know what they can and can not do. Switch sides when they seem to be off, but ask in a nice way, DON'T YELL at your partner this will usually make than play worse lol. Hope this helps and let me know if you have any more questions. I am not that Han, I was given this nickname by lil Ed an "A" player in reference to a bruce lee movie. My name is John and Han''s a friend of mine played him a week before the "Rookie game" it was like 22 to 25 or something like that. He then zipped Tyrone which i would not have believed if i wasn't the reffing.|||make sure you cover the other player and dont let him/her get the ball.

make sure you are open so you can score.|||When you are just starting out as a beginner in bowling, there are certain steps and things to learn before you can truly advance not only in your game, but your bowling scores also. There are several steps that beginners should take and practice to become a great bowler. If you try hard and practice these tips you will advance faster and understand better how to read your ball. Becoming a good bowler also depends on some mental bowling preparation and physical practice. Both are very important to mastering your own personal bowling goals. We have put together the very basic and first steps to help you get started. It is always handy to know the bowling terminology before you get started.|||well to support the weaker side of handball make sure you play it if you can so it wont be weak.. and in the power side make sure you always try to play the wall on the first hit to set your self up for the burn|||Assuming both power side and support side are rightys: power player covers all of his side and middle since his right is more effective than the support side left. As support u cover the right corner and support the power player when he /she is out of reach of the shot.

it gets more complicated when someones a lefty, but their is no specific answer to that question cause i play support side as a righty, and cover more shots than the power side player most of the time|||Well if your both right handed, in order to play support side, try to do more power serves or ace serves if you can because most likely the powerside gets more shots volleyed to him.

usually his more worn out but if your partner is a lot stronger then you and your opponent see it and pick on you more, i suggest you try to hit either power shots down the middle or try to pick the corners if you can, especially the right corner if their powerside player is agressive and covers the middle more.

other wise you hit it to the left corner(closer thus requiring less power) if they had bad communication and shares the middle. also regardless if your playing power or support, watch the shots and count them, if they are picking on your teammate non stop and his returning 3 shots already and is mid game, try to get rdy and jump in for him, because usually after 3 volleys to 1 person, they get a bit tired and start hitting weaker and weaker returns. especially when they played 1 or 2 games and if like 19-20 25 game, but make sure you discuss this with your teammate.

if you have anymore questions feel free to email me.|||This is if both players are both right handed or left handed. How big of a field is needed for handball, or court?

Can me and my friends just play on a basketball court or football field?|||Handball is played on a court forty meters long by twenty meters wide (40mx20m).|||An official handball court is 40 meters long by 20 meters wide but of course you and your friends can play on a basketball field or any other surface where you can run and bounce the ball at the same time.|||no

Handball is played on a court forty meters long by twenty meters wide (40mx20m), with a dividing line in the middle and a goal in the center of either end. The goals are surrounded by a near-semicircular line that is generally six meters (6m) away from the goal, called the crease. There is also a dashed near-semicircular line that is nine meters (9m) away from the goal. In established play (which is most of the time, although counterattacking is becoming increasingly important), the defenders stand right outside the 6 m line, with the attacking players throwing the ball to each other a bit outside the 9 m line, trying to create an attack (either by shooting from a distance, or passing to a player standing at the 6 m line).

After a goal has been scored, the team conceding the goal restarts the game. Its players move to the center line. Once a player has the ball under control the referee will blow his whistle to restart play. All players of the team which are restarting the play must be behind the line on their own half, or else the restarting throw will have to be retaken.

Only the defending goalkeeper is allowed to step inside the six meter (6m) perimeter, though any player may attempt to catch and touch the ball in the air within it. If a player should find himself in contact inside the goal perimeter he must immediately take the most direct path out of it. Should a defender make contact with an attacker while in the goal perimeter, their team is penalized with a direct attempt at the goal, with only one attacker on the seven-meter line and the defending goalkeeper involved.

The ball is smaller than a football in order for the players to be able to hold and handle it with a single hand (though contact with both hands is perfectly allowed). Some American versions use a volleyball. It is transported by bouncing it between hands and floor 鈥?much as in basketball. A player may only hold the ball for three seconds and may only take three steps with the ball in hand. After taking three steps the player will have to make a dribble with one hand in order to continue moving forward, but if the ball is held in both hands after making a dribble and the player makes another dribble, a free throw will be given to the other team for a "double dribble". There are many unofficial rule variations; a common American version allows only a single step with the ball, after which the player must pass the ball to another teammate or shoot.

Why does handball have a sport category and not Paintball?

Paintball is played in the olympics and all over the world.|||um....two things.

paintball is not in the olympics. as much as we all wish it was...it's not. IT'S NOT EVEN IN THE FREAKIN X GAMES! the sad truth is that because we use paintball markers it's seen as a violent activity. there's been a huge jump in the paintball community but there are just some small things that are stopping us from becoming more recognized. we're still the number 2 fastest rising sport right now. so don't worry. we'll get a spot soon.

How do you play handball with a good arm swing?

Not the European handball|||Just pratice by throwing the ball to the wall and hitting it with side arm. Use sidearm to hit the ball when it is low. Go foward with your opposite foot and remember to bend your knee so you arm is at the same level as the ball.|||underhand is most healthy for your body since the "softball underhand throw" is a natural motion it allows for more power with no stress on the shoulder. this motion is actually called 'irish whip' since in ireland they play on a much larger court its the safest way to shoot the ball a greater distance. For power you need to have proper footwork %26amp; the power is all going to come from your hips %26amp; legs. The higher levels of play that you get to you will find that most the shots are going to be taken below your waist so even an underhand fist for the ceiling for your defensive shots to set up the kill is the way to go. proper mechanics will provide for most efficient game play ~ cheers, Aces|||I always tried to swing side arm whenever possible. IMDb synopsis:

Michael Hunter's 17-year-old son, Kyle, committed suicide although he was in therapy for depression, and this ruins the man's marriage. His daughter, Shelly, moves in with her mother. He stops treating patients in order to write and teach psychotherapy until, many years later, the case of Thomas "Tommy" Caffey intrigues him. He is about to be released on his 18th birthday from the institution he was placed in after his father, Joseph, was put into jail for beating his adulterous mother to death. Michael feels that Tommy, who reminds him strongly of his lost son, carries a big chip on his shoulder and manages to ignore the fact that Shelly falls for the troubled youth at first sight.

How do I underhand in handball?

My underhands are not very smooth. Theyre very clumsy and my hand comes up at awkward angles. Is there any way to improve on this?|||First, when hitting the handball, either on a serve or a return, try to remember to take a step into your hit; this will give added power. Second, don't stand with your body facing the wall. Instead, turn your body to the right or left (depending on which hand you're using) 90 degrees with your body facing the side out-of-bounds lines when hitting. Finally, to hit a "kill" shot more effectively, try to keep your hand straight, fingers together, and put power in the shot.|||When the ball is low try to put your arm down in full length and just walk up to the ball and swing your arm your up (not all the way up).

But, speaking as an outsider who doesn't watch much soccer, it's clear that Ghana would have won the game if it wasn't for that handball and if the rules were different. In sport, there aren't many examples where the outcome of a match depends on a single incident. The Suarez handball is one of those rare examples. Were it not for that handball at the very end of extra time, Ghana would have won. Even you as a Uruguay supporter would have to admit that. To say otherwise would not be very gracious.|||People are so blind. Ghana's miss of a penalty kick is what cost them. I honestly think Suarez could have blocked with his head or chest but he probably didn't want the ball to be kicked back in so he panicked and used his hands.

And like someone else said, the shootout showed Uruguay was the better team.

The best of the best go to the World Cup and win (eventually, not saying Uruguay would win or anything, no one knows for sure) and not a nation you feel sorry for and hope to win because all of a sudden it's Africa's year? lol

Chances for Ghana to win -

1. Regulation game

2. Overtime

3. Penalty Kick

4. Shootout

Come on...

Suarez also was caught and punished. It's only cheating if you are NOT caught. He was caught and Ghana was given a penalty kick (which was missed) and Suarez was kicked out of the game and won't play against the Netherlands.|||i dont Louis was doing everything to keep the ball out. It is the world cup the biggest stage you have to go all in or go home.

If he did not do that then Paraguay lose I am glad to see his sacrifice rewarded Gyan in all fairness should have punished him for his mistake but he didnt he missed the big PK

PS if anyone thinks what Louis was doing was cheating then if you are not cheating you are not trying hard enough|||you may say Ghana had the chance however They were robbed of a 100% stone wall goal. And then given a 50/50 chance at a goal from the spot, the effort was going in regardless, a penalty is not as easy as it looks, imagine the pressure last seconds of the game, could have been the first african team in semi's of a world cup, so its not as easy as it seems|||Sylvia !!!

Foul and abusive language is punishable by a red card and subsequent suspension.

http://www.fifa.com/worldfootball/lawsof鈥?/a>

Perhaps 'Answers' should suspend you!|||If you're so sure of it, why are you posting questions about it, are you seeking people's approval? Why are you bothered what people think? People have the right to support any country they want, and have the right to get upset when the country loses. And admit it, it was quite a cheap victory, not like they beat them in the 90 minutes.|||120 minutes of football. Tell me your legs wouldn't be tired? They had already played extra time versus USA. I feel bad Gyan was even put in that position. You try to kick the ball on target running around that long. It's damn hard and not an easy shot. Tired legs, weight of Africa on your shoulders.|||Because without the handball, it was a 100% certain goal. Not a 75% chance of scoring a goal (which is all a penalty kick is), but a 100% certainty.

Without the handball, Ghana would have won.|||I think anyone would have done the same if they were Suarez I'm still pissed that he used his hands but it's his attitude that I didn't like throughout the match.....even the way he shook the Ghananeen players hands I saw the hatred in his eyes! Not a fan|||It was cheating

bud he was punished

penalty and red card

so Ghana blew the chance to score themselves

so the Ghanese fans indeed need to get over it.

It isnt Suarez Fault

It is Gyan fault you do not play the semis|||suarez did NOT cheat because he got caught! if he didnt get caught then that would be called cheating!! plus he got punished for it and ghana missed the PK! its not Suarez's fault that ghana sux at PK!|||This Ghana-hype is irritating the crap out of me. They got a penalty for that damn handball and they missed it. Go home and sleep, Ghana.|||Its not cheating, layers do this all the time. When they're desperate, they react with their hands. Sometimes they even do it on purpose.|||It was "The Hand of Lucifer" that prevented Ghana from scoring the winning goal. Uruguay made a deal with the devil.|||We dont blame the handball for the loss. We blame Suarez for cheating. Get it straight kid.|||tell me about it i know, but some people are saying that goal was automatic. The penalty kick had a goalkeeper there to block it. go uruguay!|||Because if the handball didn't happen, Ghana would have won. Simple logic really.|||The shootouts proved that Uruguay was better|||i blame that dam crossbar. lets get the height of the goal measured cuz theres no way a world class player can choke that bad lol|||It's just sour grapes. Uruguay won fair and square.|||How would you like to come home and see you boyfriend getting ******

Would it be ok then

In the past 15 years they really had dominated this game, followed by Germans, Spain and others. How are penalties served in handball?

Is it like hockey where you sit in a box, or in basketball where you get kicked out with 2 flagrants?|||Penalties are given to players, in progressive format, if the contact between the players is particularly rough (even if it is indeed frontal) the referees may award a nine-meter free throw to the attacking team, or if the infraction was during a clear scoring opportunity, a seven-meter penalty shot is given. In more extreme cases they give the defender a yellow card (warning), a 2-minute penalty, or a red card (disqualification). For rough fouls they can also order two-minute expulsions or a red card without having to warn the player. A player who is disqualified may be substituted with another player after two minutes. If a player assaults a referee, an opponent or any other person severely and deliberately, the referee can expel the player forming a cross over his head with his arms, which will tell the player that he/she will have to leave the game completely and can't be substituted for the rest of the game. An expulsion results in a quarantine for the player shown out. Disqualifications may also lead to a quarantine for the respective player. A team can only get three warnings (yellow cards); after that they will only be able to be penalized with 2-minute suspensions. One player can only get three 2-minute suspensions; after that he/she will be shown the red card, and cannot participate in that game anymore. A red card from three 2-minute suspensions does not result in a quarantine. A Coach/Official can also be penalized progressively. After a yellow card and a 2-minute suspension, the red card is shown straight out, and unlike players, coaches cannot be shown a complete expulsion, but of course also be given a match quarantine. When shown a 2-minute suspension a coach will have to pull out one of his players for two minutes - note: the player is not the one punished and can be substituted in again, because the main penalty is the team playing with a man less than the other.

After having lost the ball during an attack, the ball has to be laid down quickly or else the player not following this rule will face a 2-minute suspension. Also gesticulating or verbally rejecting to follow the referee's order, as well as arguing with the officials decisions, will normally result in a 2-minute suspension. Alternatively, if it is done in a very provocative way, a player can be given a 2-minute suspension if he/she does not walk straight off the field to the bench after being given a suspension, or if the referee deems the tempo deliberately slow.|||Penalties are given to players, in progressive format, if the contact between the players is particularly rough (even if it is indeed frontal) the referees may award a nine-meter free throw to the attacking team, or if the infraction was during a clear scoring opportunity, a seven-meter penalty shot is given. How exactly do you play handball?

I know it is a little like football, but just a little different.

give rules and regulations.|||Number of Players

Teams shall consist of five (5) players. At least three (3) players must be on the court at all times. Game time is forfeit time.

Equipment

The intramural supervisor will provide the game ball. An official team handball weighs 15-17 ounces, and is 23-24 inches in circumference.

Game Time

The game shall consist of two twenty-minute halves, running time. If a tie game, penalty throws will be taken to decide the outcome of the game. Each team selects three players to attempt the penalty throws that will be taken alternately by the teams. The team with the most goals after the shoot-out will be declared the winner. All rules of penalty throws apply. If still tied, a sudden death shoot-out will determine the winner.

Scoring

All goals will count one point. A goal is scored when the entire ball has passed over the goal line, between the goal posts and under the crossbar, provided it has been thrown, carried or propelled by hand or arms of a member on the attacking team.

There will be a 30 second shot clock.

Substitution

Only the team that possesses the ball may call for substitution. However, should the offensive team elect to substitute; the defense will also be entitled to substitute. Following the above guidelines, substitutions will only be allowed:

1. On a penalty throw

2. On a corner throw

3. On a throw-in

4. After a goal (both teams)

5. If a play is stopped due to injury (both teams)

Court

All court lines are referred to by their measurement in meters. The most significant line on the court is the six-meter line, or the goal area, or the circle. Only the goalie is allowed inside the goal area. The only exception when another player is allowed in the goal area is when they take off from outside the goal area, and shoot the ball toward the goal before landing. To avoid interference with other players, the player must then exit the goal area as soon as possible. The nine-meter line, or the free-throw line, is used for minor penalties. The seven-meter line, or the penalty line, is used for major penalties. The goal line, even with the goal at each end of the court, serves as out of bounds. Only the goalie is allowed inside the goal area. If an offensive player is in the circle or on the line, the ball is given to the opponent. A goal does not count if the offensive player releases the ball before landing in the goal area. If the defense gains an advantage by being in the circle, a penalty throw is awarded. A ball inside the goal area belongs to the goalie. A ball in the air, however, is not considered to be in the goal area.

Starting The Game

Play is initiated by a throw-on at mid court. After each score, the opposing team will receive the ball at mid court.

Playing the Ball

A player is allowed to run three steps with the ball, or hold it for three seconds. A player is not allowed to play the ball with their legs below the knee. There is no limit on dribbling the ball. A double dribble, however, results in a free throw for the opponent. A player may not pass the ball in the air with the intention of catching it him or herself. This is an air dribble. Players are not permitted to dive on the floor to play the ball.

Defending The Opponent

Defensive players are allowed to use their body to obstruct an opponent either with or without the ball. Using the arms or legs to push, hold, trip or hit, however, is a violation. Offensive players are not allowed to charge into player, or a free throw is awarded.

Throw-ins

A throw-in is awarded to an opponent when one team loses the ball out-of-bounds on a sideline. The defense must be three meters away when the ball is thrown in.

The player must have both feet touching the court during the throw-in.

Corner Throws

A corner throw is awarded to the offense when a defensive player is the last person to touch the ball as it goes out-of-bounds over the goal line (excluding the goalie).

Penalties

A free throw is given for the minor infringements of the rules. The free throw is taken immediately, without the referee handling the ball, from the place the violation occurred. The defense must remain three meters away. The thrower must have one foot continuously in contact with the court, and must make a throw or pass within three seconds. A goal must be scored directly from a free throw. If a minor foul occurs between the goal line and the free throw line, the free throw is taken from the free throw line just opposite from where the foul took place. A penalty throw is given for personal fouls of a more serious nature. The majority of penalty throws are given when an offensive player is fouled when shooting. A penalty throw is not awarded, however, unless the referee feels that the offense had a sure chance to score when fouled.

The officials follow the "advantage" rule: If a team fouled against is able to gain the advantage, play continues without a penalty.

When the penalty throw is taken, one foot must remain in contact with the floor behind the seven-meter line until the ball is released. All the other players must stand beyond the nine-meter line and the opposing players must remain three meters from the thrower.

***NEW RULE***

Any player committing 5 fouls in a single game will foul out.

Suspension

Un-sportsman like conduct, unusually rough play or intentionally repeating three (3) personal fouls results in a free throw for the opponents and the player will have a two minute suspension from the game. During a suspension, the suspended player's team must play with one less player.

GAME DISRUPTION

Any one, who in the judgment of the Recreation and Wellness staff, is ejected for disrupting a contest, will be ejected for the entire season. If Campus Police is summoned for a disruption involving players or spectators, that game will end immediately and the team or teams causing the problem will forfeit.

OFFICIALS

When necessary, the winning team will be required to provide one official for the following game. A team that fails to do so will forfeit their victory.|||Put your hands in your pockets, and then you wiggle 'em around. How was Team Handball (Olympic Handball) created, such as the format of the game?

I was watching a video out of curiosity and it reminded me of Soccer in some way, but using your hands instead. What year did Team Handball actually start and why was the game created the way it was?|||There are records of handball-like games in medieval France, and among the Inuit in Greenland, in the Middle Ages. By the 19th century, there existed similar games of h氓ndbold from Denmark, h谩zen谩 in the Czech Republic, h谩dzan谩 in Slovakia, gandbol in Ukraine, torball in Germany, as well as versions in Uruguay.

The team handball game of today was formed by the end of the 19th century in northern Europe, primarily Denmark, Germany, Norway and Sweden. Holger Nielsen, a Danish gym teacher, drew up the rules for modern handball (h氓ndbold) in 1898 and published them in 1906, and Rasmus Nicolai Ernst, another Danish teacher, did something similar in 1897.

Another set of team handball rules was published on 29 October 1917 by Max Heiser, Karl Schelenz, and Erich Konigh from Germany. After 1919 these rules were improved by Karl Schelenz. The first international games were played under these rules, between Germany and Belgium for men in 1925 and between Germany and Austria for women in 1930.

In 1926, the Congress of the International Amateur Athletics Federation nominated a committee to draw up international rules for field handball. The International Amateur Handball Federation was formed in 1928, and the International Handball Federation was formed in 1946.

Men's field handball was played at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin at the request of Adolf Hitler.[1] The sport was removed from the 1940 Olympic Summer Games. However, during the next several decades, the game of handball flourished and evolved as an indoor sport in the Scandinavian countries. The sport re-emerged onto the world stage as team handball for the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich. Women's team handball was added at the 1976 Summer Olympics. Due to its popularity in the region, the Eastern European countries that refined the event became the dominant force in the sport when it was reintroduced.

The International Handball Federation organized the men's world championship in 1938 and every 4 (sometimes 3) years from World War II to 1995. Since the 1995 world championship in Iceland, the competition has been every two years. The women's world championship has been played since 1957. The IHF also organizes women's and men's junior world championships.

I still think it is a wonderfull sport and should be practiced more.|||Probably because schools stopped building handball courts. And on top of that the sideline ref didn't do a thing about it either. It should have been a red card and a penalty kick for Australia. Fortunately it didn't really decide the game since they came back in the second half and pummeled the other team. After the game the referee did apologize and say that she missed the call, but there should be some type of consequence for that player, it was a disgusting move for the sport of soccer.|||Heu...
