what is it?|||a game|||What is Handball? Well it depends on what version of the sport your asking about.





Version #1 Handball- This version is what most Americans think of when they hear handball and it's played in Ireland as part of the Gallic Games. Best described as racket ball without the rackets.





Handball involves two to four players (singles or doubles), a ball durable hands, and a few walls. Handball is usually played on a Court is usually 60 feet X 30 feet and 40X20 with the players striking a tiny ball against the front wall (later other walls) in the hope they will place it in a spot their opponent can't get to and deliver a point to the player who has served.

Version #2- Handball (What is also known as team handball as not to be confused with that other handball) is a fast paced game involving 2 teams of 7 players who pass, throw, catch, and dribble a small ball with their hands while trying to score goals. The team with the most goals wins the game. A game consists of two- 30 minute halves with 10- minute half time break.





Team Handball is most popular in Germany, Scandinavian counties such as Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Iceland, and into Eastern Europe such as Poland, Slovenia, Croatia Hungary,etc. Spain and France also play the sport and have pro leagues. Other then European nations game also is popular in North Africa. Really the only place in North America that it has a strong following is Greenland.





Team Handball had its 1st world championship in 1938 and has been part of every Olympics since 1972 (1976 for women).
