Why is the world going crazy over Henry's handball vs Ireland when the ref didn't award france two penalties?

The media is making this thing look as if Henry guilty of murder. I watched the highlights at least twice, and Henry and Anelka were both fouled in the penalty box, clear penalties. So if France should have really had 2 penalties, why is the whole world going crazy over a handball assist that the ref also didn't see?

I think France deserved to go through.|||Because it was the goal that eliminated Ireland. The world went crazy because it was France, a big team and Ireland were the underdogs, and naturally most neutral fans would side with the underdog team and would criticize everything about the favourites. If it had been the other way round (i.e. Ireland had scored a controversial winner) i'm sure the world wouldn't go crazy about it. In fact, most people might even joke about France's misfortune and say how lucky Ireland were, I can imagine media headlines being "The Luck of the Irish" or something like that instead of stuff like "Le Cheat" which Henry had to endure.

When you are a big, successful team like France with many rivals and are the favourites for a match, a price you have to pay is not just heavy pressure but the wrath of almost everybody if any controversy benefited you. Also, the fact that France has a negative image in countries like UK and USA doesn't help - it was mainly the English-speaking countries (who are naturally anti-French, and of course would support Ireland) that went crazy about it.
